Terms
Kelpi is free, open source and has no accounts. These terms are short because the license does most of the work. They cover the app, this website and the Kelpi name.
The software
Kelpi is released under the MIT License. You can use, copy, change and share it, including for commercial work, as long as the copyright and license notice stay with it.
As the license says, Kelpi is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and its authors are not liable for any claim or damage that comes from using it.
You run your agents
- Kelpi runs your shells and the agents you start in them. It does not review, approve or undo what they do.
- Agents such as Claude Code and Codex talk to their own services under their providers' terms. Those terms are between you and the provider.
- Plugins are trusted code that runs with your permissions. Install only plugins you trust.
- If you open Kelpi to a phone or another computer over your tailnet, you decide who can reach it. Keep pairing links and tokens to yourself.
The Kelpi name and logo
The MIT License covers the code, not the Kelpi name or the kelpie logo. You can say your project works with Kelpi, builds on it or is a fork of it. Please give a fork its own name and logo rather than shipping it as Kelpi. The details are in TRADEMARKS.md.
Software Kelpi is built on
Kelpi stands on open source software, and each project keeps its own license:
- Electron and Chromium, for the desktop app and web panes
- ghostty-web (MIT, Coder), the terminal engine, vendored with patches
- xterm.js (MIT), node-pty (MIT), Hono (MIT) and React (MIT)
- Geist and Geist Mono (SIL Open Font License), the typefaces on this site
- Phosphor (MIT), the icons on this site
The full list of dependencies is in the package.json files on GitHub.
This website
kelpi.sh describes Kelpi and links to its releases on GitHub. It is provided as is and may change. What it collects is set out in the privacy page.
Changes and questions
These terms may be updated as Kelpi changes, and the date below will move when they do. Questions go to GitHub issues.
